Bob always took the newspaper to Grandpa White’s home before going home. Grandpa White’s was at the end of the road. Bob liked Grandpa White. He was often waiting for him near the front gate with sweets or a nice cake. Besides, He often asked Bob about things he was doing, what he was going to do for the summer and what he liked to do.
The thing that Bob didn’t like about Grandpa was his never-ending stories about his boyhood(童年)in California. Bob was never asked to hear about Grandpa’s boyhood, but he couldn’t get away.
After Grandpa’s wife died in October, Bob could see that Grandpa was lonelier than ever. He would often join Bob halfway along the road and walk along with him as he gave out the newspapers. Grandpa seemed to have all day, and Bob was often late giving newspapers to his customers(订报者). Bob didn’t want to complain, but the customers were unhappy. When he took the newspaper to Grandpa White, Bob would often receive _______.Bob could do nothing when ______.The passage mainly tells us that _______.

Alice was now in a long dark room with doors all round the walls, and she could not see the White Rabbit anywhere.
She tried to open the doors, but they were all locked (锁上的). “How will I ever get out again?” she thought sadly. Then she saw a little glass table with three legs, and on the top of it was a very small gold key. Alice quickly took the key and tried it in all the doors, but she couldn’t open any.
Then she saw another door, a door that was only forty centimetres high. The little gold key unlocked this door easily, but Alice couldn’t get through it—she was much too big. So she lay on the floor and looked through the open door, into a beautiful garden with green trees and bright flowers.
“I’d like to be out there—not in this dark room. Why can’t I get smaller?” It was already a very strange day, and Alice was beginning to think that anything was possible.
After a while she locked the door again, got up and went back to the glass table. She put the key down and then she saw a little bottle on the table. Round the neck of the bottle was a piece of paper with the words DRINK ME in large letters.
“It can be dangerous to drink out of strange bottles,” she said. “What will it do to me?”
She drank a little bit very slowly. The taste was very nice and very soon Alice finished the bottle.
“I think I’m getting smaller and smaller every second.” And she was. “And now,” she said happily, “I can get through the little door into that beautiful garden.”
She ran at once to the door. Then she remembered that the little gold key was back on the glass table. She ran back to the table for it, but she was now much too small! The key was high above her, on top of the table. She tried very hard to climb up the table leg, but she couldn’t do it.
At last, tired and unhappy, she got angry with herself. Soon she saw a little glass box near her on the floor. She opened it, and found a very small cake with the words EAT Me on it.

Some British and American people like to invite friends for a meal at home. You should not be upset(不安的)if your English friends don’t invite you home. It doesn’t mean they don’t like you. Dinner parties usually start between 7 and 8 p.m. and end at about 11. Ask your hosts(主人)what time you should arrive. It’s polite to bring flowers, chocolates or a bottle of wine as a gift. Usually the evening starts with drinks and snacks(小吃). If you want to be extra polite, say how much you like the room, or the pictures on the wall. But remember-it’s not polite to ask how much things cost. In many families, the husband sits at one of the table and the wife sits at the other end. They eat with their guests. You’ll probably start the meal with soup or something small, then you’ll have meat or fish with vegetables, and then dessert(甜点心), followed by coffee. It’s polite to finish everything on your plate and to take more if you want it. Did you enjoy the evening? Call your hosts the next day, or write them a short “thank you” letter. British and American people like to say “thank you, thank, thank you” all the time!If your English friend doesn’t invite you to dinner at home, it means he or she ______It’s impolite ______The meal ends with _______ usuallyWhen you are invited to a dinner party, you’d better _______Which of the following is true?

Plant scientists consider them as fruit. Most other people think of them as vegetables. Whatever you call tomatoes, there are many different kinds of this popular and healthy food.
There are two groups of the plants. Small tomato plants grow to about one meter. They can be planted rather close together. Some short kinds do not require special care and are often gotten crop by machines. Large tomato plants can grow over two meters tall. They also produce larger fruits.
People who grow only a few plants can place wire cages around each one. The cage can be made of wire fence material. The cage helps the plant grow taller and produce a better crop.
Tomatoes often need extra calcium (Ca), or the fruits may be ruined. Add lime to the soil can solve this problem. Dry lands may also ruin the fruits. Tomatoes need water regularly. The soil should never dry out completely. Dried grass or leaves placed around the plant can help hold water in the soil and stop the growth of unwanted plants.
Tomatoes are native to South America. The tomato is a member of the potato family. The leaves of the plant are poisonous, like the leaves of its relatives. Before the 18th century, people grew tomatoes only as pretty plants. They called the bright red fruit a “love apple”, but would not eat itWhich of the following is right about the small tomato plants?People place wire cages around the plant in order to______.The underlined word “ruin” probably means “______”People often give tomatoes extra calcium by ______.What can we learn from the passage?

Happiness is for everyone. You don’t need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your hear into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can’t be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. So you can’t always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving (旋转) door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.Happiness is for
.When you do something wrong,
. And you feel happy.Which is true according to the passage?

Wild animals are our friends, but many of them are getting fewer and fewer. We should try to protect them. The four animals below are now in danger.
Tibetan Antelopes
Tibetan antelopes (藏羚羊) are medium-sized animals. They mainly feed on grass. They are usually found in groups of about 20. They are killed for their wool, which is warm, soft and fine and can be made into expensive clothes. Although people can get the wool without killing the animals, people simply kill them before taking the wool. The number of them is dropping year by year. There are less than 75,000 Tibetan antelopes left in the world, down from a million 50 years ago.
Golden Monkeys
Golden monkeys are mainly found in Sichuan, Gansu, Shanxi provinces and Shengnongjia mountainous area of Hubei Province. Golden monkeys have golden-orange fur. They move around in the daytime, usually in groups of as many as 100 to 200 heads, or 20 to 30 heads. They feed on fruits and young leaves of bamboos. But people are destroying the environment where they live. Trees and bamboos are disappearing, so golden monkeys have less and less to eat.
Elephants
Elephants are very big and strong. They are bigger than any other animals on land. They are grey and have long trunks and tusks. They have poor eyesight, but very good hearing and smell. They can lift heavy things and break down branches with their trunks. Elephants are very friendly towards each other and towards their neighbours. Normally, they live in a group for many years. Young male elephants do not leave the group until they are about 12 years old. Now, there are very few elephants in the world. The number of them is becoming smaller and smaller because their living areas are used for farming. Also, people hunt them for their tusks.
Wolves
Wolves are not very big. They have grey fur. Wolves have very good eyesight, hearing and smell. Wolves’ food is various. They eat animals, insects and snails. They are friendly to each other and never attack people. They do not kill for fun. Wolves are in danger, too. They are losing their living areas because people cut down forests. Soon they will have no home or food.Tibetan antelopes usually live in groups of about _______.Which of the following animals are the biggest on land?Which of the following sentences is right? What can be the best title of the passage?

The students of Class Three are going hiking for their fieldtrip. Hiking is good for people’s health. Many hikers like to hike in the countryside, forest (森林) and mountains. Just walking for fun is the first kind of hiking. Many people like to hike in the parks or just on the sidewalks.
A hike can take a few hours or weeks. For most hiking, people just need clothes and shoes that are good for the weather. At the beginning hikers should start with walks that they can do in one day. As you get stronger, you can go on overnight hikes. Later you can go longer than that. You can make your hiking last (持续) a few days or weeks.
For safety (安全), hikers should hike with someone. You should have one or two friends with you. It is also a good idea to carry a map.
Backpacking is another kind of hiking. People carry food, clothes and other things on their backs in packs. Backpackers can stay many days in the places where there is no food to buy. They carry what they need on their backs.

Do you get angry when your friends sing loudly? Or when your best friend does not wait for you after school?
If you do, you need to control(控制) your feelings and stop getting angry so easily. Getting angry easily can make you lose friends.
Gary Egeberg, an American high school teacher, wrote My Feelings are Just Like Wild Animals to help you control your feelings. It tells teens how to stay cool when bad things happen to them. The book says that getting angry only makes problems worse. It can not make them better. “Getting angry is not a natural way to act”, the book says. It is just a bad habit, like smoking. The book says you can control your anger easily, and all you have to do is to tell yourself not to be angry.
When a baby falls over,
it cries only when people are watching
it. Like a baby, you can only get angry if you are sure it is the right thing to do.
The book gives many suggestions to help you if you get angry easily. Here are the top three.
①Keep a record. Every time you get angry, write down why you are angry. Look at it later and you will see you get angry too easily.
②Ask your friends to stop talking to you when you get angry. This will teach you not to be angry.
③Do something different. When you get angry, walk away from the problem and go somewhere else. Try to laugh! The writer wants to tell us ____. The writer thinks that if you get angry easily you will ____. My Feelings are Just Like Wild Animals is a ____. My Feelings are Just Like Wild Animals mainly tells us ____. When Mr. David retired(退休), he bought a small house in a village near the sea. He liked it and hoped to live a quiet life in it. But to his surprise, many visitors came to see his house in summer holidays, for it was the most interesting building in the village. From morning to night, there were visitors outside the house. They kept looking into the rooms through the windows and many of them even went into the house. He decided to drive the visitors away. So he put a notice (公告)on the window. The notice said, “If you want to satisfy your curiosity(好奇心),come in and look around. Price: twenty dollars.” Mr. David was sure that the visitors would stop coming, but he was wrong. More and more visitors came and Mr. David had to spend every day showing them around his house. “I came here to retire, not to work as a guide(导游)”, he said angrily. All around the world, people drink tea. But tea does not mean the same thing to everyone. In different countries, people have very different ideas about drinking tea.
In China, for example, people always drink tea when they are getting together. They drink it at any time of the day at homes or in the teahouses. They prefer
plain tea, with nothing else in it.
Tea is also important in Japan. The Japanese have a special way of serving tea called tea ceremony(茶道). It is very old and full of meaning. Everything must be done in a special way in the ceremony. There is even a special room for it in Japanese homes.
Another tea-drinking country is England. In England, the late afternoon is “tea time”. Almost everyone has a cup of tea then. The English usually make tea in a teapot and drink it with milk and sugar. They also eat cakes, cookies and a few sandwiches at tea time. This is the so-called “Afternoon Tea” in Britain.
In the United States, people drink tea mostly for breakfast or after meals. Americans usually use tea bags to make their tea. Tea bags are faster and easier than making tea in teapots. In summer, many Americans drink cold tea—“iced tea”. Sometimes they drink canned iced tea, just as soda.Tea is popular________. The Chinese drink tea ________.The English like to drink their tea ________. “They prefer plain tea, with nothing else in it.” The word “plain” here means ________.In this passage, which country’s way of drinking tea isn’t mentioned(提及)?
